Sports RDs, Vegan Protein Powders, and Pre-Workout Gummies, Oh My
Two articles in one week? Cookies are crumbling that way..
My goal of one mutually helpful newsletter per week is being surpassed, thanks to some mid-week assignments! Keep scrolling for what I need this week, along with a QUICK Q&A from the questions you sent in!
Q&A Korner
You asked: “Best way to get new writing clients when you’re still new?”
My Thoughts: You first need to have a published sample (or two). If it’s published by someone else—amazing. If you haven’t gotten someone else to pick up your work, publish yourself on your blog or use a platform like Medium. You can also offer writing services to bloggers or experts in your area of interest for a smaller fee so that you can build your portfolio. All it takes are a few good samples to showcase what you can do!
If you already have a few published pieces under your belt, my best advice is to start networking and pitching ASAP! Follow and connect with editors and other writers on Linked In, get involved in specialized Facebook groups, and send out pitches and letters of introduction like it’s no one’s business. And the most important advice I can give: don’t forget to follow up. Almost all of my current clients came from many, many months of follow-up emails or through word of mouth from other editors or content managers I had been in contact with over the past few years.
In the coming weeks, I’ll feature a Q&A section answering any of your burning media questions. If you have questions about writing sound bites, answering media interviews, freelance writing, getting media mentions, or anything else related to media or writing, use the button below to ask away, and I’ll choose a few to answer the following week!
